Riverlane and Unitary Foundation Launch Deltakit Community Fund for Open-Source QEC

Quantum error correction (QEC) developer Riverlane and non-profit research organization Unitary Foundation have launched the Deltakit Community Fund, a quarterly microgrant initiative designed to accelerate open-source QEC software development. Building on the momentum of June’s unitaryHACK26 hackathon, the rolling fund provides global software contributors with milestone awards ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 for building production-grade features into Deltakit, Riverlane’s open-source QEC development toolkit.
The fund targets foundational infrastructure challenges in quantum error management, prioritizing external developer contributions in areas such as error budget bounding, fault-tolerant threshold computation, and ZX-graph benchmarking libraries. Managed through Unitary Foundation’s open-source merit frameworks, the program provides technical oversight and milestone reviews from Riverlane engineers to ensure new features are seamlessly merged into the core Deltakit codebase.
Launching its pilot phase with two initial active projects for the second half of 2026, the program accepts global applications ahead of its first review cohort on August 17th. By providing direct financial incentives for open-source contributions, the collaboration aims to expand developer participation in QEC tooling and strengthen the foundational software layer required for fault-tolerant quantum computing.
