SkyWater Technology and Qolab Establish Midwest Commercial Foundry Agreement for Superconducting Devices
SkyWater Technology and Qolab have partnered in a multi-year agreement, with Qolab becoming the lead customer for SkyWater's new SC250 superconducting platform. This collaboration aims to scale Qolab's Quantum System-in-Package (QSiP) architecture, transitioning superconducting quantum processing unit (QPU) components from research to commercial manufacturing to reduce complexity and cost.

Pure-play semiconductor foundry SkyWater Technology (NASDAQ: SKYT) and superconducting hardware developer Qolab have signed a multi-year commercial manufacturing agreement. Operating under SkyWater's Technology-as-a-Service (TaaS) model, the collaboration establishes a regional fabrication-to-assembly pipeline connecting SkyWater's semiconductor foundry in Bloomington, Minnesota, with Qolab's packaging and testing facilities in Madison, Wisconsin.
Under the terms of the agreement, Qolab will serve as the lead commercial customer for SkyWater's newly launched SC250 superconducting platform. The manufacturing program focuses on scaling Qolab's Quantum System-in-Package (QSiP) architecture, which integrates cryogenic wiring, low-pass filters, and amplifiers into compact, wafer-scale modules. By transitioning from custom, low-volume development to standardized wafer processing with locked-in unit production costs at high volumes, the framework aims to reduce form-factor and cabling complexity in utility-scale superconducting processors.
To support volume production for the SC250 platform, SkyWater is executing targeted tool upgrades and modernization initiatives across its Minnesota cleanrooms. The engagement provides Qolab with dedicated capacity planning and commercial visibility, creating a repeatable foundry blueprint for transitioning superconducting QPU components out of boutique research cleanrooms into commercial semiconductor manufacturing lines.
